VICTIM TYPES
Primary (Direct) Victims
Individuals physically injured or in immediate danger at the scene.
Secondary (Indirect) Victims
Family, friends, and loved ones of primary victims who suffer emotional distress due to their relationship with those affected.
First Responders & Recovery Workers
Professionals exposed to either the scene itself and/or the graphic aftermath and suffering of victims, leading to cumulative stress and vicarious trauma.
Community & Vicarious Victims
The broader public exposed through intense media coverage or community impact, experiencing a collective shock and loss of safety.
The Heart House welcomes all types of victims of mass violence regardless of where the mass violence event occurred.
